WHY THIS WORKSHOP
The Dolomites are home to some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the world—towering peaks, alpine lakes, golden forests, and dramatic light make this a dream destination for landscape photographers.
This 8-day photography workshop is designed to give you an experience most visitors will never have. Instead of rushing between crowded viewpoints, we’ll stay in carefully chosen mountain huts above 2,100 m and a comfortable 4-star hotel. The huts place us right in the heart of the mountains, so you can step outside at sunrise or capture the last light of sunset without long hikes or busy trails. It’s an immersive way to photograph the Dolomites, and one that gives you a portfolio of images you’ll love sharing.
Late September is a magical time in the Dolomites: golden autumn colors, softer light, fewer crowds, and the chance of atmospheric conditions like mist or cloud inversions. Combine this with expert guidance, small group size, and all logistics handled for you, and you’ll be free to focus entirely on creating unforgettable photographs.
“Without imposing himself, Andrea is always available to help you achieve your photography goals. I always learn something in his presence or in watching his videos.”

PRACTICAL DETAILS
-
This workshop runs with a minimum of 4 participants and is limited to a maximum of 6, so I can give each of you personalized mentorship and guidance, tailored to your experience and goals. This isn’t a crowded tour; it’s an intimate, immersive photography experience.
-
This workshop is open to beginners, professionals, and everything in between. The only criteria are that you have a passion for photography and have the motivation to be on the go every day and night.
-
MODERATE
This tour is suitable for anyone with a good level of fitness, though some hiking at altitude will be required to reach certain shooting locations. For example, on the trail to Rifugio Locatelli at Tre Cime di Lavaredo, we’ll first reach Forcella Lavaredo, a scenic ridge about 40 minutes along a mostly flat, well-maintained path, with a short final incline of roughly 100m. From there, the hike to Rifugio Locatelli takes around 1 hour and 40 minutes in total, with about 150m of altitude gain.
All hikes take place around 2000m elevation, sometimes higher, so fatigue may set in more quickly than at sea level. There’s nothing technical on any of the routes, and anyone with reasonable fitness can manage them. Still, you’ll want to pack light, as you may carry your camera gear for a couple of hours at a time.
To maximize your photography time, the workshop is designed to minimize hiking where possible, using cable cars to reach rifugios and other locations. This ensures that most of your time is spent capturing the scenery rather than transferring or going on long hikes. We move at a comfortable pace, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the landscapes and photograph along the way.
A TYPICAL DAY
-
We don’t believe in rigid schedules. Instead, our workshop is flexible, with location choices made organically based on the weather and lighting conditions.
While our approach is flexible, it’s never unstructured. Every day flows naturally, as you’ll see in the breakdown below, which illustrates a typical day on our workshop, including shooting times, rest periods, and meal times. This ensures a well-balanced mix of shooting, learning, and downtime so you can fully immerse yourself in the experience.
MORNING SHOOTING
On most days, we start early to capture the breathtaking Dolomites sunrise. The soft morning light, often enhanced by clouds or mist lingering in the valleys, creates dramatic and unforgettable landscapes. We'll position ourselves at carefully chosen high-altitude locations with plenty of time to set up before the mountains are bathed in golden light. After our sunrise shoot, we'll return to our mountain hut or hotel for breakfast and a well-deserved rest. This downtime is intentionally built into the itinerary for several reasons. First, the combination of early mornings, long days, and high-altitude hiking can be physically demanding, so this break helps prevent fatigue as the workshop progresses. Second, as the sun climbs, the dramatic shadows and contrast that make the Dolomites so striking fade. Rather than shooting in less favorable light, this is the perfect time to rest, review, and back up your images, or simply enjoy the unique alpine surroundings of your accommodation.
-
Later in the morning, we reconvene for post-processing sessions designed to help you make the most of the images you've captured. These sessions are customized based on participants' experience levels and can range from basic Lightroom techniques to advanced Photoshop methods including Luminosity Masks.
We work in small groups with individual attention, demonstrating the same techniques we use for our own photography. All sessions are recorded and shared with the group, allowing you to review and practice these techniques at your own pace later. Toward the end of the workshop, we'll replace one processing session with a critique session, often one of the most enjoyable moments for participants, where each participant shares their favorite images for constructive feedback.
-
After lunch and a short break, we head out for our afternoon photography session.
The afternoon sessions provide ample time to find compelling compositions, experiment with different framing techniques, and perfect your exposures as the light changes. We conclude most days with dinner at our rifugio, providing an authentic taste of Italian cuisine while discussing the day's photography.
Throughout the entire workshop, our small group size ensures you'll receive personalized attention and feedback, allowing you to develop your skills and creative vision in one of the world's most photogenic landscapes.

WHAT’S ON THE ITINERARY

DAY 1 - 4 WESTERN DOLOMITES & VAL GARDENA
ADAMELLO NATURAL PARK AND SECEDA | 3 NIGHTS
We’ll pick you up from Venice Marco Polo Airport and transfer you to our first base in the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park, a wonderful mountain rifugio that has been recently renovated. After settling in, we’ll head out for our first sunset shoot that evening.
Our adventure begins in this incredible park, a true gem of the Italian Alps. Our time here is flexible and can vary depending on the weather and lighting conditions, but we’ll ensure that we capture all the key locations in the area.
By spending our first two days in this remarkable park, you'll have the rare opportunity to photograph both the classic, colorful dolomite mountains of the magnificent Brenta Dolomites and the raw, dramatic beauty of the volcanic peaks of the Adamello-Presanella group, all in one stunning location.
High-Alpine Lakes: We'll visit serene, high-altitude basins where still water beautifully reflects the surrounding peaks. This will allow us to capture stunning, symmetrical compositions of both the rugged, dark mountains we're among and the light-colored Dolomites in the distance.
Brenta’s Dramatic Vistas: We will photograph the expansive view of the light-colored and craggy spires of Brenta peaks, like Cima Tosa, Crozzon di Brenta, Campanil Basso, and Cima Brenta.
After two days exploring the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park, we’ll continue our journey to the heart of the Dolomites: Val Gardena. From here, we’ll access one of the most iconic and photogenic peaks in the region, Seceda.
We’ll spend a night in a lovely rifugio situated right beneath the jagged Seceda ridgeline, giving us privileged access to capture both sunset and sunrise over this dramatic landscape.
Seceda’s Iconic Ridges: Our main focus here will be the iconic, razor-sharp rock fin of the Seceda ridgeline. We'll work on capturing its dramatic shape and the incredible contrast it creates with the surrounding landscape.
Seceda Panoramas: In addition to the ridgeline, we’ll explore other vantage points across Seceda that provide breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and mountain groups: Puez-Odle, Sassolungo, Sella, Alpe di Siusi, and Marmolada. These spots offer different perspectives and wide-angle compositions, allowing you to convey the scale, depth, and grandeur of the Dolomites from multiple angles.

DAY 5 - 8 EASTERN DOLOMITES / CORTINA D’AMPEZZO AREA
CORTINA D’AMPEZZO AREA | 4 NIGHTS
After breakfast on Day 4, we’ll leave our rifugio in Seceda and journey to the Eastern Dolomites, where we’ll base ourselves in two stunning locations.
This region is among the most breathtaking in the Dolomites. During our stay, we’ll explore iconic spots, each offering unique photographic opportunities:
Tre Cime di Lavaredo
Cadini di Misurina
Lago Federa and Croda da Lago
Passo Giau
Cinque Torri
Passo Falzarego
Our first stop will be the highest rifugio in the Dolomites, where we’ll spend one night surrounded by 360° views that make it feel as though you’re floating among the peaks.
The next day, we’ll move to a mountain hut inside the Tre Cime natural park, giving us the freedom and convenience to explore different compositions at the perfect times of day, from angles and perspectives that day visitors often miss. We’ll have more time, more peace, and more creative opportunities to truly capture the essence of this iconic place.
The variety of landscapes we’ll visit ensures that you’ll come home with a truly diverse portfolio of Dolomites images, everything from iconic peaks and alpine lakes to wide panoramas and intimate details.
On the last morning, we’ll have breakfast first thing, then check out of the hotel and take you back to Venice, where we say our goodbyes.

OUR UNIQUE BASES IN THE DOLOMITES
On this tour, we base ourselves in four locations: four iconic mountain huts above 2,100 m and one comfortable 4‑star hotel. This mix combines the authentic alpine hut experience with essential comfort, while the hotel adds a touch of relaxation at the end of the journey.
Spending nights in the mountain rifugios is one of the highlights of this workshop. High in the mountains, they place us right where the action is for sunrise, sunset, and night photography, allowing us to capture the best light without long walks or early drives.
From the doorstep, you can frame peaks, valleys, and skies from unique vantage points, watch the colors shift across the mountains, and even shoot the stars at night. The huts are cozy and welcoming, giving us a chance to relax, share the day’s shots, and enjoy the region’s best local dishes.
We’ve reserved rooms just for our group, so you won’t be sharing with other guests. This allows you to enjoy the huts’ charm in comfort and privacy, something rarely available in these sought-after locations.
The rifugios are run by long-time friends, so we’re always greeted like family—creating the perfect environment to focus fully on photography. Staying here lets you immerse yourself in the mountains and capture the Dolomites in a way few people get to experience.
How Much Hiking Is Involved to Get to the Rifugios?
We want you to enjoy the Dolomites to the fullest—without worrying about overly strenuous hiking. Our Hut-to-Hut Workshop is designed to be accessible for photographers of varying fitness levels, including those who haven’t done much mountain hiking before.
One of the most common questions I get about the Dolomites workshop is: “How much hiking is involved?”
Most of our movement between locations is short, scenic walks from the rifugios. These trails are easy to moderate, giving you direct access to stunning viewpoints and photography spots without long and exhausting treks.
Thanks to the Dolomites’ incredible network of cable cars, we’ll reach the rifugios quickly and comfortably. From each rifugio, most photography locations are just a short walk (5–20 minutes) on well-maintained trails.
The focus is on photography, not endurance.

Over the course of the workshop, we will take you to beautiful locations and give you every chance to get great shots while improving your technique. We limit the number of participants on our workshop to just six which gives us plenty of time with everyone in the field and from the beginning of your time with us, we’ll aim to identify your photographic level and what you’d like to focus on.
We'll tailor the workshop to meet your exact needs and provide plenty of one-to-one tuition both in the field and post-processing sessions, and having two shooting sessions a day means that you’ll get plenty of time in the field, so you can quickly get into a shooting rhythm where you can put new skills into practice.
As local guides with over 20 years of experience exploring the incredible landscapes of the Dolomites, we have developed a strong understanding of the region’s weather patterns and light conditions. This expertise allows us to time our visits perfectly for amazing photography opportunities. Our knowledge of local conditions guarantees we can explore safely, even in unpredictable weather.
Finally, we want to share with you our passion for nature and landscape photography in this incredible place. Traveling in such small groups means we can quickly build a great learning environment where people feel comfortable together and at ease with asking questions and making the absolute most of the trip. We aim to make your experience here in the beautiful landscape of the Dolomites a memorable one and a trip from which, as well as getting some great images from amazing locations, you’ll also go home having had a true adventure with great company in a very special place.
-
You can expect the atmosphere to be a perfect blend of excitement, camaraderie, and tranquility. There will be plenty of cheerful chats and belly laughs, balanced with quiet moments of awe as we connect deeply with the natural landscape around us.
You'll be sharing all of this with a group of people who are just as passionate about photography as you are, and who will quickly become your friends.
I've seen it happen every single time. Every workshop I've led has created bonds that last way beyond our time together. People arrive as strangers and leave as buddies. There's something magical about how a shared love for nature and photography brings us all together.
